Inverted Boise

Boise has been suffering from inversion for about a week now. I had never heard of such a thing until moving to Boise. Living in Boise this past week has been like being in a bubble. It has been overcast and cool (as seen in the picture above). The weather forecast has been the same for the past week. Temps in the low 30's. Basically a layer of clouds has been sitting over Boise and due to the high pressure, nothing has been able to move out of the valley. Boise sits at about 2500'.

This picture was taken at around 4000' on our way up to Bogus Basin. The temperature started to drop as we went into the fog. This phenomenon is known as "freezing fog", again something I never heard of in Ohio.

Once we made it up to Bogus Basin ski area (at around 6000') it was glorious! We literally were on a "going to the sun road". The temperature was in the upper 40's, sunny, and perfectly blue skies. It almost seemed like a completely different day and place while we were up there skiing.

This is a picture looking down on the layer of fog and clouds (that is not snow in the background). Boise is below that layer, somewhere.

That's your weather lesson for the day.
