Wildlife Encounters

Here are some wildlife pictures and movies from our recent trip to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons. May is a wonderful, quiet time to be at these National Parks. Many of the park roads had just opened for the season and the wildlife viewing was abundant (they haven't gotten annoyed yet by the RV's, cars, and numerous people).

This picture was taken in Yellowstone, early in the morning. Yes, the bison was that close. Somehow I felt safe being in the car, but I'm sure the bison would have no problem with a piece of glass.

We found this animal skeleton on our hike near Old Faithful.

This is a bear track in the snow. Needless to say I was wanting to quickly turn around and head to the car. I must also mention that we were also 20-30 ft. from a wolf (and still coming towards us). I was too scared to try for a picture.

We saw multiple moose. They normally travel alone. We spotted him in the Grand Tetons.

Near Old Faithful we saw a bison with her newborn calf. We believe the calf was just hours old, if that. Newborn calves are able to start walking within 2-3 hours of being born.

In our next post we will share some of our geyser sightings.
