Our Memorial Day Weekend

I'll start off first by showing you what our new slogan is. This will make more sense later.

On Saturday we stayed close to town and did a hike in the foothills. We did a hike called "Corrals Trail". You can see in the pictures below the corrals of horses that we encountered and the views of downtown Boise in the background. Also we saw more wildflowers in bloom.

Our plans for Sunday changed multiple times. We originally were going to take our mountain bikes and drive about 2 hours out of town to do a trail. Saturday night as Mike was loading our bikes into the car he noticed his tire was flat from a goathead (We just heard about these since moving to Boise). This was strike #1. Since we only had one spare tube we didn't think it was a good idea to be too far away with no spares. So we decided to drive up towards McCall (about 2 hours north of Boise) and do a hike up that way. Strike #2 happened when we came to a gate across the road and found out that the road wouldn't be open until May 31st. Our trusty hiking book failed to mention this.
We did see some pretty scenery on our detour. Also on our way we spotted a moose crossing a river. It was just a little too far away for a picture to turn out.

We finally made it to our new trailhead and thought we were heading towards strike #3. It was lightly raining and we had a little trouble find the trail at first, but the rain and our navigation issues didn't last long and we were able to take a nice hike to a place called Goose Creek Falls. We encountered some snow on the trail, but it was passable.

On Monday we just biked around town (after getting Mike's tire fixed). Upon returning home Mike had another goathead. When he pulled it out of the tire you could hear the hiss and soon after the tire was flat. In total now we have had 3 flats from goatheads. I think we will have to spend the money and upgrade to better tubes and tires.

We hope that everyone had a good weekend.

Julie
