An Old Friend

I made my inaugural bicycle commute to work this past Saturday. It went very well and I think that I will ride as long as it isn't raining. Saturday was a beautiful day, sunny and high in the 70's. I got to see the sunrise on my way into work. On my way home I passed a park, a golf course, and crossed the Boise River with many people out kayaking. Overall it is a relaxing ride with little traffic and part of the ride is on the Greenbelt. It was nice to see so many people outside. Commuting by bike is quite popular in Boise. From our new house to the hospital I only have about 4 miles one way. Today I rode by bike to the post office and the gym. When you average out the approximate cost in gas it takes to go one mile it makes me even more motivated to ride.

I refer to the bike in the picture above as "an old friend" because that is the bike that I rode across the country back in '96. Since I got my "new" bike ('99) I haven't ridden this bike all that much. It feels good to put this bike to good use as my commuter bike.

Yesterday I took Abby for a hike up in the foothills. This trailhead is just a little over 5 miles from our house. The temperature got up into the upper 70's, so I frequently let Abby stop to cool off in the creek and get some water. Above are some of the wildflowers along the trail.

Also along the trail I saw numerous butterflies. They seemed to congregate in large groups. One finally landed and I was able to get picture.

Tomorrow is the last day of tax season! Finally I will no longer be a tax widow.
