On Sunday, we got up and had a great breakfast at the Mayor's House. We then left for a ranger guided hike into a place called the Firey Furnace (FF) in Arches Nat'l Park. This was our hike with Ranger Dick. This was Ranger Dick's first time to lead the hike into the FF. I hate to be overly critical but it showed. The FF is a place where you walk into some canyon areas, scamble over slick rock, and walk along ledges. There was at least 3 times when the "Secret Ranger" (sent along to make sure things went okay) had to tell Ranger Dick that he was going the wrong way. One of those times, Ranger Dick was leading us along a very narrow ledge that was going to run out. Julie and I think that RD did not pass his test.
He is picture of Julie walking in one of the more narrow areas.

This is another one of the canyon areas in the FF. Notice the small arch in the picture.

Overall the FF was a very fun hike. I can see why they want to send you into this area with a ranger (even RD) because you could very easily get lost in there.
Julie and I hope that RD was not sent back to ranger school.
After the hike we went back to the b-n-b to wait for my parents to arrive. They were driving in from Montrose, Colorado. So, we had lunch by the pool and went for a swim. I also had a beer. I love vacation.

When they arrived we went back into Arches and did two more hikes. This was on our hike to Skyline Arch (pictured below). After this we did a hike to three more arches. It was very hot on this day, I think about 103. In fact, we saw a bunch of Rangers (not RD) going down the trail to help a hiker who was having medical issues.

Once back in Moab, we went to dinner at the Moab Brewery. We had some good beer and food. We wanted to go into the park and show my parents sunset at the park, but it got really cloudy.
In the next post, the four of us go into Cayonlands Nat'l Park
