Non-Boise Adventure - P.1

Last Saturday, we left at 4:00 am to go to Moab, Ut. We were going there to meet my parents who are on a month long driving vacation to the west. More on our time together in the next post. During our drive to Moab we listened to Aron Ralston's "Between a Rock and a Hard Place" book on tape. If you don't remember who he is, he went hiking in Cayonlands Nat'l Park in 2003 and got his hand stuck by a rock. He ended up cutting off his own arm. Here is a youtube video of Aron recalling the cutting. This took place about 100 miles from where we were in Utah. We would recommend reading this book.

We got to the Moab area at about 1:30 pm. We went right into Arches Nat'l Park. The first hike we did was to the Windows Arches. Here is a picture at the South Window Arch. It is about 98 degrees during this hike.

After the 2 mile hike in the heat, we went back into Moab to check into our bed n' breakfast. We had dinner and then at about 5:30 we went back into Arches to do a sunset hike to Delicate Arch. Picture below.

Here is a picture of how great the red rocks of the area look at sunset.
We did the 3 mile round trip hike to Delicate Arch. There was a lot of people at the arch. So many that we were not paying close attention to the trail markings and followed a guy from Europe the wrong way to the arch. We had to back track because the only way to the arch would have involved some scary walking on slick rock ledges. (Read here: Stix needs to pay better attention) Once we got to the arch we got this really cool picture of us in the arch.
In Part 2, we do a hike with Ranger Dick (his real name), my parents show up and we go back into Arches.
